Mystery shopping is an isolated pursuit
Mystery shoppers are by definition usually alone. Think about it - you don’t get to tell anyone when you are shopping and usually can’t bring friends with you when you have an assignment. That being said support from fellow mystery shoppers can be a godsend for advice, sharing war stories, or just hanging out in general.
One way to connect with fellow mystery shoppers is through the forums at Volition. There are many areas of discussion from the most bizarre thing you’ve had happen while shopping to detailed discussions of the various mystery shopping companies. There’s even an area of the forum for mystery shoppers from your particular state to post an introduction and get to know other shoppers in your area. This kind of networking can be most helpful. Say you see an assignment that you’re just not interested in, but you know your pal Jane from the forum might be so you send her an email. Then she can return the favor by bringing assignments you might not be aware of in your area to your attention.
You can also try a social site such as Meetup. This is a site where people with whatever kind of interest from the obscure to the common can hook up and have get-togethers. The problem that I find with this site though is that if you post a meeting of mystery shoppers you are just swamped with people wanting ‘easy’ money and actual mystery shoppers do not attend.
I’m sure you will tell your closest friends and family that you are a mystery shopper so you will already have a good support system in place. ![]()
